Topic Overview: Historical Discussion about the Martyrdom of Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (PBUH)-Medina (Introducing Masjid al-Nabi and Al-Baqi’)-The Value of Sending Salawat upon the Prophet (PBUH & HP)-Etiquette of Traveling

  • Objective(s):

    1. Since children arrive at different times it is suggested that before that start of the official program, any sort of craft/coloring that is related to the occasion is planned for those who come earlier to the program.

    Procedures-Supplies Needed:

    1.Acrylic paint

    2.Brush or foam brushes

    3.Cardboards

    4.Ruler

    5.Duck tape or masking tape

    6.wire/cord

    Duration:

    25 Minutes

    Warm up/ Craft:

The instructions to make the “Big Airplane”, can be found at the end of this file.

The intended airplane should be made by the respected mentors before the start of the program, and the participants should only color it.

Instructions for two other smaller airplanes can also be found at the end of this file.

    http://www.fereshteha1382.ir

Procedures of making the airplane components:

    1.Body of airplane:

To make the body of the aircraft you will need a few cardboards in a rectangular shape (the dimensions can be whatever that suits your needs and the way you are going to use it. This plane can be made in a smaller size or a larger size in a way that children may sit in it. The greater the number of the rectangles, the longer the body of the plane.)

    Image 1:

On a paper draw an oval that fits the rectangles and use it as a template to trace the windows of the plane. On each rectangle draw two ovals and cut it out carefully using a cutter.

The distance between the two ovals from the edge of the cardboard (orange lines in the image) should be ½ of the distance between the two ovals (black lines).

Now you have many rectangles with windows.

On the body of the plane, you will need a segment at the end of the project to attached the wings of the plane. For this matter, prepare two rectangles of your desired dimensions. Remember you will not need to cut out windows for this matter, as they are needed to attach the wings of the plane.

    Piolet’s Cabin

For the front of the plane you will need two rectangles and two triangles (trapezoid):

Rectangle #1 (blue rectangle in the image): The width should be the same size as the rectangles made for the body. But the length should be different. Hence, if you choose a longer length the plane is going to be wider. You may place more seats.

Rectangle #2 (green shape in the image): prepare the shape according to the length and width you chose (in reality the length of the green rectangle should be half of the length of the blue rectangle and its width can be in your desired dimension). The longer the width the taller the pilot’s cabin. Trace the window for the piolet’s cabin and cut it our using a cutter. This window can be in whatever shape you may desire.

Two triangles (trapezoid): These two triangles are placed in symmetry in the both side of the green rectangle. After cutting out two triangles in your desired dimensions, on the two triangles, trace a window in a shape of a triangle/ trapezoid and cut it out.

Note: The length of the black arrow is half of the red arrow.

Note: The black dashed lines on the blue rectangles are places to fold the cardboard.

    The nose of the plane:

Draw a hexagon in your desired dimensions. Trace a line from one comer to the opposite corner (blue lines in image). The hexagon will turn into six triangles. In order for the nose of the plane to not be sharp like a bird’s beak you need to trace another hexagon in the middle as shown in red lines in the image. Then cut the traced hexagon with a cutter

    Image #3:

For this hexagon to be like a cone, one of the triangles needs to be cut out. Then you may fold the triangles based on the dashed lines and attach them together in a shape of a cone.

    Image #4:

The cone you made will be just like the image above, by without the sharp nose. To cover the nose of the cone, you may trace a pentagon and attach it in its place.

The main body of the plane: first prepare the rectangles in a way that they may stay upright. Then you attach them together with duct tape. Make two slits on the bottom of the rectangle, as shown on image 5. Try to make the slits from the edges equally for better balance.

Make two small rectangles in your desired dimensions. And pass through each of the small rectangles from the slits made earlier, in a perpendicular matter. Like a plus sign.

    Image #5

    Attaching the wing compartments together:

Arrange the rectangles, and the trapezoids you made for the wing besides each other on the ground. Prepare a few rectangles in dimensions of X and desired width. Using duck tape attach the smaller rectangles on the slits.

    Image #6:

Attaching the wing to the body:

make a cut in a rectangle you prepared for the attachment of the wings and then push the wing through the slit. For it to stay better in its place you may use another box under it.

    Image #7:

Attaching the cabin of the Piolet:

Pay attention to image #2. First attach the nose cone of the plane in the middle of the blue rectangle. For this matter place the blue rectangle on the ground, find the middle of the rectangle and then make three slits with the cutter according to the cone made earlier. Also make three to four slits on ends of the cone then attach the cone to the rectangle by using wires. This way the nose cone is securely in its place. Then fold in the rectangle on the dashed lines in a 120-degree angle. Then place it upright. Then attach the upper portions of the piolets cabin by using masking or duct tape. In the end, attach both sides o the blue rectangle to the body of the plane.

An airplane made from toilet paper rolls:

The first piece is for the body of the plane. You need to cut the shape given in the given image.

Cut out a piece like the image. This indicated the window of the pilot’s cabin. Use a cutter to make this cut.

Cut out the shapes needed for the wing, tires and the tail of the plane as shown in the image. Also, do cut out a place holder for them as shown above.

Then slide the tail and the wing of the plane from the slits and attach the tires to the body using toothpicks.

    Color the plane as desired.

Salaam to you all! How are you all doing? It’s almost the end of the month of Safar. This month and the month of Muharram, are months of grief and sadness for the Prophet (SAWA) and his dearest family (the Ahlulbayt). Why you might ask? Because during these two months, bad people and the enemies of the ahlul-bayt oppressed and harmed them, and harmed and harassed their families. The martyrdom (shahadat) of Imam Hussain (AS), his children, his loyal companions, and the loss of the Prophet of God (SAWA), Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba and our eighth Imam, Imam Reza (AS), during the last days of this month, are among the sad events of these two months.

My dears, who here knows where the haram (shrine) of our dear Prophet is? Yes, the haram of our Prophet, Hazrat Muhammad (Salawat Allah alaih) is in the city of Medina (display the Dome of Khizra). Now who knows where Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba the beloved, grandson of Prophet, meaning the older son of Amir al-Muminin (as), and lady Fatimah al- Zahra (SA) is buried? Yes, just like the Prophet he is also in the city of Medina and right across his haram. But there is a difference between the haram of Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba and the Prophet! But I will not tell you all now and let you all see it yourselves when we take a trip to the city of Medina. Then you guys can see the difference and can even tell me the reason if you already know it!

Well as I said, today we want to take an imagination trip to the city of Medina in the country of Saudi Arabia. Now, get ready by packing your luggage. Tell me now, what do you guys take with you when you are going on a trip? Yes, like your clothes, toys if you need them (not too many), your personal items such as your toothbrush, brush, towel, and maybe even a pair of sandals! What else? Well you must think it through to see what else you might need to take with you to put it in your luggage!

My dears, your tickets have been reserved beforehand, but remember to bring it with you and be careful to not lose them (please prepare little cards that resemble an airplane ticket and hand it to the children).

MC’s: Salaam to you all! Welcome to our airplane! Everyone fasten your seatbelts, and get ready for takeoff! My dears, what to do we do before the start of everything? What to do we recite? Yes, we say “bismillah Allah rahman rahim” and recite the Quran. Now let’s all together recite surah al-Masad, so we can brighten our hearts, and the program. It’s totally fine if some of you don’t know this surah, just try to repeat it after everyone else. If you like, when you leave here today, you can start memorizing this surah, so you can recite it for me in our next program.

May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.(1) His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.(2) He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame (3)And his wife [as well] – the carrier of firewood. (4)Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber. (5

(The translation given is only for the mentor’s use)

My dears, please recite a loud salawat, because this way we say our salaams to him, and ask God to increase the status of our Prophet. (Salawat). My dears, who here knows what this surah is about? This surah is about two of the enemies of our beloved Prophet. In this surah, dear God tells us about the destination and fortune of these two enemies of the Prophet, who bothered and hurt our Prophet very much. Their names were Abu-Lahab and his wife, who was a very bad and evil woman. God has said that the place of these two people will be in the Hell fire, because of all the harm they have done towards the Prophet. My dears, another bad woman, was the wife of Imam Hassan (AS)! Even with all the kindness that Imam Hassan would show her, she would harm and harass our Imam! This is because this bad women, grew up in the family that were the enemies of the Ahlul-bayt. Well my dears, at the end, this bad and stone-hearted woman, martyred (killed) our Imam by putting a poison in the cup of milk that he was going to drink for Iftar. Today is the day of the shahadat (martyrdom) of our dear Imam, who is our second Imam. And few a years ago, during this day was also the martyrdom of our kind Prophet. That is why we have all gathered here, and as a group we want to take an imagination trip to the city of Medina, and go for a ziyarat of our Prophet (sawa) and Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (AS).

Well now let’s go on our trip, and Insha’Allah by having recited the Quran, and by the remembrance of God, we are going to have a safe trip!

My dear children, our trip is going to approximately take an hour and half, and we are heading to the city of Medina, the city of Prophet Muhammad (SAWA), so we can do ziyarat of him and his grandson. (At this point we can have someone as a flight attendant explaining to children the duration of the flight, say something about the rules of the flight and do a small talk for them). Alright, my little travelers we have reached to the city of Medina, the city of the Prophet and you can now unfasten your seat belts (loud Salawat and displaying the Dome of Khizra). (With excitement), My dearrsss, look at over there that is the haram (shrine) of our dear Prophet. Look at the beautiful green dome. Wow!!!!

(Children can take a photo besides the projected picture). (Explaining to them the etiquettes of giving salutations: putting on hand upon their chest, standing up-right before them, giving their salaams, respecting and making Duaa’)

My dears, we also want to take a trip back in time, meaning to go to very old times. Who wants to go on this trip? Well that is great! Now in your imagination fasten your seat-belts again, and recite another loud salawat.

    Story: Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (PBUH)

Someone was there, others were not. God was there, while others were not.  My little children, the daughter of our beloved Prophet was all grown up and it was the time for her to get married. Who remembers the name of the dear daughter of Prophet Muhammad (SAWA)? Good job, Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (SA). Since this family, was a very special family, and were the best in doing good things; God Himself, had chosen a very good groom for this darling girl. Who can tell me who he was?…Great. Imam Ali (AS). From this very blessed marriage God gave them 4 kind and loving children. Who knows their names? (Hassan, Hussain, Zainab, and Umm-Kulthum)

My dears, our kind Prophet would always order everyone to be kind to children! He was also kind to children, loved them very much and even would play with them! How lucky were the kids of our beloved Prophet, and also how lucky we are that we had such a kind Prophet. The Prophet loved Imam Hassan and Imam Hussain (AS) so much, that I can’t even tell you how much! He would always kiss them, hug them, and would tell people that whoever likes God, and likes me, they should also like Imam Hassan and Imam Hussain (AS). Because God loves them very much. Why? Because they were the best people living on the earth and guiding many people.

Now tell me again, who was the oldest grandchild of the Prophet (SAWA)? Yes, the first child of Imam Ali (AS) and lady Fatimah al- Zahra (SA), was Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (AS), who became our 2nd Imam after the martyrdom (shahadat) of Imam Ali (AS).

Now tell me, who was the kind grandson of our Prophet and how would he interact with people, how was his manners?

The kindness and generosity of the Ahlul-bayt (As) especially Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba was famous among people. Everyone knew about this, and whenever they faced a problem they would go to Imam Hassan (AS) and would ask him for his help, and they were sure that their problem would be solved. He had a pure and loving heart towards the poor and those who had a problem, and just like his beloved father Hazrat Ali ibn abi Talib (AS), would sit beside those afflicted with hardships, and listen to what they had to say, give them food, money and would help them in any way possible.

Now that we became more familiar with Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba, meaning our 2nd Imam, let’s all go for his ziyarat, to the Baqi’ cemetry, right across the dome of Khizra meaning the haram (shrine) of the Prophet (displaying the pictures of Baqi’, saying salaams and salutations by observing the rituals mentioned earlier)

Now tell me did you all notice the difference between the haram of Prophet and Imam Hassan (AS)? Yes, that is right. Long times ago, the enemies of Imam Hassan (AS) ruined the grave of the oldest grandchild of the Prophet, meaning our 2nd Imam. And today, the leaders of the country of Saudi Arabia do not allow anyone to build a shrine for him or even a shade, so people could sit and do ziyarat. They don’t allow anyone to build a shrine (haram) just like the Prophet, or Imam Reza or Imam Hussain (AS). Well just to say, this very kind Imam was very, very oppressed, in his house with his wife giving him a poison which martyred him. And now they won’t even allow a shrine to be built for him. We hope that the Imam of Our Time returns sooner, and bring with him goodness for the world so we may also build a magnificent shrine for our dear Imam Hassan, so we can go for a ziyarat.

    The Reason for Traveling:

     Image 2:

Traveling is a great opportunity for us to spend time with the members of the family, have fun and learn new things. But also, it’s a way for us to practice overcoming difficulties.

    Getting Ready to Travel:

     Image 3:

it’s good, that one should try to learn more information about the place they are going to go and get ready by knowing something about the weather and living conditions of that region. Depending on if we are going to a hotel or someone else’s house, we should see what we need? Like what clothes to take, our personal items such as our toothbrush, towel, sandals and ……

It’s a good idea that we know something about the cities attractions, and get ourselves ready to see those places.

    Image 4:

if we want to travel with car, dad must take care of the car, so It’s all ready for the trip. This may be a lot of work for our dad, so we should thank them.

    Image 5:

Mom must prepare the things needed for the trip. We must help them and thank them as well. Our parents try their best, so we can travel time to time, and make good memories. Oh, and don’t forget to take pictures or videos wherever you go on this trip so it can be something for you to look at in the future.

    Traveling by Car:

     Image 6:

When you travel with a car along with the family, you must follow certain rules in the car. We should not make too much noise, seat in the backseat, and not do something that may distract the driver’s attention. If we eat something in the car, we should throw out its trash in a trash bin. On the road, we also can look out the window, look at various landscapes, and learn new things.

    Traveling by Bus:

     Image 7:

when we travel by bus, we put our luggage in the luggage compartment of the bus and only take with us small items on the bus. We must remember that the driver cannot stop whenever we want. Therefore, if we have to use the restroom or we may need something, we have to do it when the bus stops in the middle of the road or before the bus departs.

In the bus, we should not make too much noise and disturb the rest of the people. We should not walk in the aisle of the bus. We should not talk loudly so it wouldn’t bother the people who are sitting behind and in front of us. We should also keep the bus clean, and throw out our trash in the trash bin.

    Traveling by Train:

    Image 8:

Train is nice. Riding a train is fun. Especially if you are in a private compartment with the whole family. Sometimes, a train moves during night, and one might sleep in the compartment. Sometimes, one must get off the train, for example to pray or maybe we have to change our train and get on another train. We must be careful to do this fast, and hurry up so we don’t miss the train.

    Traveling by Airplane:

    Image 9:

if we travel by an airplane we get to our place faster; but we must remember that planes have certain rules that we must follow.

    Image 10:

for example, we should get to the airport few hours before our flight so we can check in our luggage and get ready to board on the airplane. There they search our luggage and our bodies, to make sure no one has any dangerous item with them to take on the plane.

    Image 11:

On the plane, the flight attendants are very nice. They will help us find our seats on the plane and will give us anything we might need. During the time, refreshments are served they will give us yummy food and snacks.

Even though we have a small table in front of us, while eating our food we should try to not make any mess, and drop any food on the floor of the plane. If our flight is long, they will also give us a pillow and a blanket for us to be able to sleep.

Arriving to our destination and lodging:

     Image 12:

when we reach our destination, we are not only happy to start our vacation and have fun for the next few days, but we are also a bit tired. We should try to help our parents and others for example help them to carry the luggage’s, show good manners and not show we are tired but rather be happy and smiley.

We should place our belongings in the right place, whether we are in a hotel or a house, and take good care of our belonging there as well. Our good manners, shows how much we respect the people we meet and are around during this vacation.

    Touring and Looking Around:

    Image 13:

When we go to tour interesting places, we should first be orderly, and get there on time and don’t be late. But also try to learn from the things we see and make good memories. If we visit a place that is historical, we should learn what it is about and what was interesting about it.

If we go to parks or the beautiful places around that region, we should not make the place dirty, and try to play games and exercises that is suitable for that place as a group. If it’s a museum, we should not speak loudly, and along with the rest of the people watch things; making sure we do not go ahead of everyone but also, we don’t fall behind everyone else.

    Ziyarat:

    Image 14:

Sometimes our destination is a city to do ziyarat like Medina, or Mecca, or even Najaf, Karbala, and Mashhad. In these cities, one of the best things one can do, is to go to the ziarat of the haram (shrine). The place that an Imam is buried is called a haram (shrine). A lot of people go to the shrine to make Duaa’ and request their needs from that Imam, by praying, and reading the Quran.

This way they ask God, for their requests and needs to be answered due to the honor of that Imam. It would be great if we could also use this opportunity, and make Duaa’ in the haram of that Imam, especially for our loved ones. Oh, and who should we pray the most for? Yes, good job! For the Imam of Our Time, Imam Mahdi (AJ).

    Returning:

     Image 15:

The end of a trip is always a sad moment, and we are sad that our trip has come to an end. But on the other hand, we also miss our house and our city, especially if our trip is a long one. Good kids, help their parents when they are returning from a trip, just like the way they helped when they were going away.

And not to mention, that when someone goes on a trip, it’s a good idea that they buy something for their loved ones as a gift. It doesn’t matter how much the gift is, it’s important that we make them happy, and for them to know that we were thinking of them. For example, the gift can be something made in that city and it’s something that is not often found in our city.

    My dear Traveler:

Alright my loved ones, did you all enjoy our imagination trip? Oh, and did you all know that the Imam of Our Time also travels? He continuously goes to the ziarat of the shrines of his fathers and spends his time praying and making Duaa’ for his Shiites.

Most of the times, he goes to places that his Shiites have asked for his help and goes there to help them out.

We also pray that he has a safe and successful trip and that he also prays for us. And his gift for us to be his nice Duaa’s on our behalf and that he asks God for us to be one of his companions. How great that would be!

    ———

Peace be upon the generous one from the house of Muhammad (a). Peace be upon the forgotten one.

Peace be upon the lonely land of Jannat Al-Baqi.

Peace be upon the flower of the heart of Rasoul-Allah.

Peace be upon the first light to be born in the house of Fatima (a). Peace be upon Imam Hassan Ibn Ali, our second beloved Imam.

    The essence of generosity.

    ***

Peace be upon one of the masters of the highest station,
The first candle that illuminated the house of revelation.
A flower of Muhammad’s life that never left his heart,
An Imam be he sitting or standing until the day he departs.
Oppression after oppression until this day,
By the closest of people to him all he would see is betray.
Even the betrayal of his wife he seen
For the generous one who prays for the neighbors before his house.

    Play: The Value of Salawat

Narrator: For a while the family of little Sarah has been waiting for the arrival of a new guest. Sarah’s mom is soon giving birth to a baby brother for Sarah. That is why, grandma has come to their house for a few days to help Sarah’s mother. Sarah is very happy about this, because she loves her grandma. Finally, the promised day came. Sarah’s mom along with her dad had to go to the hospital for Sarah’s little brother to be born. While Sarah and grandma wait at home.

    Scene: Home

(Grandma is sitting on a chair, and is turning the beads of the Tasbih, reciting dhikr under her lips, while Sarah walks the length of the room back and forth and is thinking)

Grandma: What has happened my dear Sarah? Why do you keep on walking? Aren’t you tired?

Sarah (sits down on the chair besides grandma): Well grandma, I am worried about mom, then what happened?

Grandma (pats Sarah’s head and smiles): Don’t worry my dear. Insha’Allah your daddy will call very soon, and give us good news!

Sarah (curiously looks at the tasbih in the hands of grandma): Grandma, what are saying under your lips?

Grandma: My dear, I am saying salawat, so Insha’Allah we soon hear the good news that your mom and little brother are doing well!

Sarah: Grandma, I know saying salawat is a good thing, but I don’t understand how it benefits my mom and brother?

Grandma: you see my dear let me explain it to you, have you ever heard for example when your mom is talking with her cousin she says: “don’t forget to say my salaam to aunt”?

Sarah: Yes, I have heard this, many times.

Grandma: Well, you see my darling when we like someone we send our salaams to them. Salawat also has the same meaning, it means that we send our salaams and blessings to our beloved Prophet hazrat Muhammad (SAWA) and his pure family, whom we really love.

Sarah (excitement): Can I tell you the rest of it? If I understood correctly, I am sure when we do this, since our beloved prophet is very kind, he also makes Du’aa for us.

Grandma: Great my dear! You’ve understood it correctly! He not only makes Du’aa (prays) for our health but also for our success in life. It’s good for you to know that in Quran there is a verse that says

It means that: “God and His angels send their salaams to the Prophet (SAWA), so O people who believe, you too also send your salaams and blessings upon him”. You see even God and His angels say their salaams to Prophet Muhammad (SAWA).

Sarah: Grandma, can you please also give me a tasbih? I also want to start saying salawat, I want to say 100 salawat for our Prophet. This way will I not say my salaams to the Prophet, I will also become calm and will be helping my mom as well.

Grandma (with a smile, takes out a tasbih from her purse, and gives it to Sarah): Yes, here is a tasbih for my faithful little girl!

Sarah and Grandma say their salawat slowly!

Narrator: A few hours later, dad calls from the hospital and tells Sarah and grandma the news of the birth of Sarah’s little brother, and the good health of both.

My dears, did you like our play? Well thank God! Now let’s all send a loud and beautiful salawat for the return of the beloved grandson of the Prophet, meaning the Imam of Our Time, Imam Mahdi (AS).

    The End/Conclusion and Dua:

Alright my dears, I hope you are not too tired? And even if you are tired, I think it was worth it! Because your time wasn’t wasted. Why? Because you learned so many new facts, and your knowledge has increased. When people learn about new and good things, it means that they are using their time the right way and are not wasting their time. It means that they are becoming a better person. Now, tell me what did you all learn today?

Yes, that’s right, today we recited surah al-Masad and understood that it was about one of the women that dear God has mentioned as a bad woman who has harmed and harassed our prophet. Then, we learned about the oppressions done against Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba, our 2nd Imam; and how his unkind and bad wife put a poison in the cup of milk that he requested for iftar for his thirst to go away and this way he was martyred. That is why we are sad on his martyrdom, which is the same time as the martyrdom of our Prophet.

Today, we learned a lot of new facts about how we should travel. Like what? Like that we should take with us our personal items, being happy with all the events that goes on during a trip. Because during a trip a lot of things might happen unexpectedly, and it’s good for us to be patient and help our parents. We should try to make everyone happy, and use this travel time the best way possible. We should try to cooperate with one another, not be selfish, and not only think about what is good for ourselves. I think if you follow these things, during your next trip, not only are you going to have lots of fun, but you fellow travelers will also have fun.

Today we also understood how great is the value of reciting salawat upon the Prophet, and how great the reward is. A really great thing that we can try to do every day, is send our salawat’s as a gift to the Imam of Our Time (AJ). We can send our salawat’s for his health and for his return.

 Reciting Dua al-Faraj while standing up and facing toward the Qibla, out of love and respect for His Eminence.
